The Fisherwomen design was inspired by Japanese Edo Period woodcuts and Kimono patterns that I drew then created a pattern depicting the women fishing on that wonderful classic wooden boat of that time, wearing the most interesting kimonos and straw skirts. As a scarf designer I often look at historical paintings for inspiration. The center figure was drawn as a kind of superwoman with outstretched arms in her kimono where the botanicals grow from her cloak to the outer composition.
